Our fishing season kicks off to an exciting start May 1st as steelhead invade the Situk River. We are proud to report that this is the largest Wild Spring Steelhead run in the State of Alaska. This popular fish averages 10 to 15 pounds, but can tip the scales at over 30! This trophy fishing runs through at least the end of May.
ALL IN A DAYS WORK! While the Steelhead run is still at its peak an excellent King Salmon run begins near the end of April, increasing your fishing options. Trolling the area's salt water bays and inlets using our 16' Lund boats or Charter boats commonly produces 20 to 40 pound Kings. The Yakutat record is 77 pounds! Feeder King fishing continues and declines in July. Halibut fishing is running strong starting the first week of May. Late May brings a strong run of King on the East River. Local air taxis provide transportation to and from the river.
FISH ON! AND LOTS OF THEM! Mid-June through July is the time to catch these parallel runs of Salmon. Sockeye, primarily taken on flies, provide fly fishermen with an excellent opportunity to test their skills. Sockeye range in size from 6 to 16 pounds, and King Salmon in the Situk run in the 15 to 30 pound range.
NOT A BAD DAYS WORK Mid-August brings the arrival of the Silver Salmon, swelling our rivers, bays and inlets with record numbers. These acrobatic salmon provide endless enjoyment for fishermen through mid-October. This species of salmon range in size from 10 to 20 pounds. NO "CHICKENS" HERE
The Yakutat area offers a saltwater fishing experience unmatched anywhere in Alaska.
Within minutes from our private dock is an abundance of Halibut, Ling Cod, Sea Bass, Rock Cod, as well as King and Silver Salmon. |
